Cyprus Ancient Myths

There are also ancient myths centered around the horned god of Enkomi-Alasia and the legendary heroes Troy that discovered the city of Salamis.

Yet another mythical Cyprus romance tells of the mythical king, Pygmalion the sculptor, who created a beautiful maiden out of ivory.

His obsession with the lovely statue caused Pygmalion to seek the help of Aphrodite, the goddess of love. The legend says that Aphrodite heard his prayers and gave life to the sculptor’s dream on festival day so that the two could live together, happily ever after.

St. Hilarion’s castle is home to the mythical gardens that are told to contain hidden treasures that still remain a mystery.

There are also many Cyprus ancient myths that relate remarkable tales of saints and the notable sarcophagus. These tremendous legends have been passed down through the ages, each with their own special significance and origin.
